Description of the genus

Rhizomes long creeping, covered with light brown hairs, roots few and fine. Fronds 2- or 3-pinnate, venation anadromous. Sori tubular; involucres not bivalvate, usually dilate, receptacle long-exserted.

 

Derivation of name:  polys: many, phlebios: veined; some species have fronds with a prominent venation.

Comment: Polyphlebium was included in the genus Trichomanes

Worldwide: c. 15 species, south temperate distribution
